Announcing auditions for Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Stagecraft will be holding open auditions for our fall show, Best Christmas Pageant Ever, on Friday, October 13th at Anderson Christian School on Liberty Highway in Anderson. Doors will open at 6:00 and auditions will begin at 6:30. Callbacks will take place Saturday, October 14th at 10am.

Auditioning students should prepare a one minute monologue.  You will also be asked to sing a Christmas Carol as a group.  This is NOT a musical.  It is a straight play with a couple Christmas Carols performed toward the end of the show.

This session, both auditions and callbacks are closed to family and friends. Small groups of students will enter the audition room to audition for the director and stage manager.

All conflicts must be listed on the audition form prior to casting. We require that you carefully consider the schedule before going through the audition process. Rehearsals will be held Fridays from 6:00pm-9pm and Saturdays from 10am-2pm. You will not be required to be at every rehearsal. Please be aware that no cast member is allowed to miss Tech Week Rehearsals or Performances, so make sure the show dates are cleared on your calendar. The show will be December 8-10, with nightly tech rehearsals during the week of the show.

Students who are currently enrolled in Stagecraft classes or participated in the Weekend Intensive and who will be 8 years old by December 10th are eligible to audition. In addition, students who are nearing the age of 19 must be 18 on the day of auditions in order to be cast in the production. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

All cast members must pay a production fee of $85.00. Half due at the first parent meeting on Friday, October 20th and the final half due at the second parent meeting. This fee goes toward snacks, costumes, and other fees associated with the production.

A HUGE part of our success is due to the amazing parents that make the magic happen! On the audition form you are asked to sign up for a pre-show committee. We ask parents to commit to 20 hours of work for our shows. You must sign your child's audition form and select a committee. Don't think you have anything to offer?? Don't worry! We have a knack for finding all your hidden gifts and talents! ;)

Ready to take the stage?

Stagecraft produces 2 main-stage productions every year, offering students the chance to put their talents and training to use. Stagecraft strives to focus every experience on learning and growth. Auditions provide an opportunity for students to gain self-confidence and performing experience in a safe, fun, and encouraging environment!

Students ages 8 to 18 who are enrolled in Stagecraft Classes are eligible to audition.

ABOUT THE SHOW

In this hilarious Christmas classic, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids--probably the most inventively awful kids in history. You won't believe the mayhem - and the fun - when the Herdmans collide with the Christmas story head on!

This delightful comedy is adapted from the best-selling Young Adult book, and has become a holiday staple for groups across the United States! Features plenty of great roles for children and adults, a few favorite Christmas Carols, and a lot of laughs!

HOW DO AUDITIONS WORK?

The audition process is split into 2 parts.

At the General Audition, students will be called into the audition room in small groups. Auditions are closed to family and friends. Each student will be asked to introduce themselves, present their audition form, and read for the director of the show.

After the general audition, the artistic team may ask some students to participate in Callbacks. These students may be asked to do cold reads from the script of the show.

When the cast list is complete, it will be posted here on the Stagecraft website and everyone who auditioned will be notified.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals are every Friday from 6PM-9PM and Saturday from 10AM-2PM.

Dress rehearsals will be held nightly during the week of the show from TBA and are mandatory for all cast members.

Students may not be needed at every rehearsal. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be released after casting which will attempt to comply with any listed conflicts.

All conflicts must be listed on the Audition Form, and additional conflicts may not be added. Stagecraft strives to teach the importance of commitment, therefore, attendance and punctuality are documented and may affect future Stagecraft participation.

PARENT COMMITMENT

Stagecraft is a family affair! On the Audition Form, parents are asked to sign committing to attend 2 mandatory parent meetings and volunteer a minimum of 20 hours on pre-show and show-week parent committees. Committees cover every aspect of producing a show, including sets, costumes, lights, sound, tickets, concessions, souvenirs, backstage crew, and many more. Our shows would not be possible without the dedication and investment of each family!
